Strike rumours add to Foxconn woes

Hon Hai, known also by its trade name Foxconn, confirmed that the incident took place at a facility run by Jiangxi Xin Hai Yang Precision Components, located in China’s eastern Jiangxi province.

China Labor Watch reported on Friday that the strike had broken out with staff calling for higher wages.

In a statement Hon Hai said that “this is not a Foxconn company but, in keeping with our desire to see our suppliers address their workplace issues in a responsible manner, we have asked the management of this firm to work with its employees and local government representatives to resolve their concerns and ensure that they meet the high standards of workplace and living conditions that we expect from any firm associated with our company”.

It has been a troubled few weeks for Foxconn, following an announcement that it would be carrying out an investigation alongside Chinese law enforcement officials over allegations that employees were involved in illegal payments from supply chain partners.
