The US manufacturer is planning to increase the output of its jets this year, notably by doubling the production rate of the 787 Dreamliner, the company’s new widebody aircraft.
“We are going to be working very closely with our supplier partners to make sure we are successful with [the planned increased output in 2013],” Randy Tinseth, an executive at Boeing’s commercial aircraft division, was quoted as saying in a Financial Times report.
In 2012, Boeing accumulated orders for 1,203 aircraft, while its main competitor, Airbus, had a record-breaking year for orders in 2011. According to the FT, analysts are expecting that Boeing’s aircraft deliveries last year will have surpassed those of Airbus for the first time in a decade.
Both manufacturers have experienced strain among suppliers as they’ve attempted to increase capacity over recent years to match demand and on occasions executives have spoken to the press about the problems that the limitations of their suppliers have caused.
