Cisco creates resource to educate suppliers to conflict mineral reforms

The Cisco Supplier Conflict Minerals Resource page, created by Cisco and solution provider Foresite, provides a streamlined resource providing links, on-demand webcasts, and advisory notices for the key requirements associated with conflict minerals, in order to help the supply chain comply with rules on conflict mineral disclosure.

The Conflict Minerals Provision and Extractive Industry Transparency Provision of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform, signed by President Barack Obama in 2010 but enacted in July, requires that US-listed companies to disclose whether goods such as mobile phones and aircraft contain minerals from war-torn Congo.

Many companies like Cisco have since faced the challenge of having to identify suppliers that are using conflict minerals and creating a reporting structure to improve visibility into potential supply chain activities that may have left them liable to the scrutiny of government officials.

Lance Allison, CEO of Foresite, stated: “Conflict Minerals is just the latest of an ever increasing expansion of global substance control regulations that ultimately impact the entire supply chain.”
