GM appoints head of global purchasing

Lieblein will move from her role as head of the automotive giant’s Brazil operations and will assume her post immediately, according to a report in Crain’s Detroit Business. She will report in to GM vice chairman Steve Girsky.

The role involves overseeing more than 3,000 suppliers globally and 6,700 employees worldwide. The job also includes responsibility for GM’s logistics operations globally.

Lieblein succeeds Bob Socia, who in September was reassigned to head up GM China. Last year, Socia said GM spends $77bn on direct material purchases and another $7bn on logistics.

Kim Brycz, who had served as the interim purchasing chief, will keep her post as executive director of GM’s indirect materials, machinery and equipment.

She will be the first woman to lead GM’s global purchasing operation.
