Siemens faces fines for train delivery

Industrial giant Siemens had been contracted by Deutsche Bahn to supply 16 new long-distance trains but following technical issues that occurred during testing delivery had to be put on hold according to reports in the Wall Street Journal Deutschland.

Volker Kefer, a board member of Deutsche Bahn, told the Wall Street Journal Deutschland: “We are interested in settling the issue directly with Siemens, not in court.”

He added that the company was looking for additional suppliers to avoid delays in the future.

In response Siemens apologised for the delays and was working closely with Deutsche Bahn to find a solution, although declined to comment on whether it would have to book charges as a result of this delay.

The company booked nearly $89.8m in charges in the first quarter of fiscal 2012 due to delays by suppliers.
