US Navy floats $41m submarine MRO contract

General Dynamics wholly-owned subsidiary Electric Boat has been awarded a the US Navy contract to perform non-nuclear submarine modernisation and maintenance work.

Under the terms of the contract, Electric Boat will continue operating the New England Maintenance Manpower Initiative at the Naval Submarine Base, providing a range of non-nuclear overhaul, repair and modernisation services in support of submarines. The MRO deal also covers floating dry docks, support and service craft and other equipment at the base.

About 250 Electric Boat employees will be engaged in the MRO work.

The contract includes four annual options. If these options were exercised, the cumulative value of the contract would be $222.3m.
